Trip Notes
The intention was to get hike to French hut, spend the night then possibly attempt Mt French or at least get up onto ridge via quaterback pass in the Mt Aspiring National park. Spend another night at French hut, then return home. A weekend trip with Steve and Zoey
From recollection it was a long drive up to Wanaka with Steve. Got to the backpackers quite late and were up early in the morning to go pick up Zoey who was living in Wanaka at the time.
Hiked to Aspiring hut, it was very warm. Couple hundred meters past the hut Simon came over all funny, sweating profusely, feeling light headed, couldn’t keep up with even me. Something wasn’t right. We put it down to dehydration and possibly heatstroke. Made a call to return to Aspiring hut and let Zoey and Steve carry on to French Hut. Simon and I hung out at Aspiring hut for 2 nights, then hiked out and met up with Steve and Zoey back at the car park.
