Trip Notes:
Simons Birthday weekend tramping trip. Day hike up Mt Temple in Arthurs Pass.
- Car park to ski lodge 1.5hrs, lodge to col 1.5 hrs, col to peak 1hr, Peak to car park 3.5. Round trip 8hrs with rests
- This is rated a 1+ in the guide book but we took the route direct from Temple col up the southern ridge, so maybe a 2 with the exposure.
- NZ route guides are utter crap – “orange slab” what orange slab??
- Were originally going to do the traverse to Phipps and then down, but after our progress along the ridge to the summit, our nerves would not have survived
- Would like to know how people get onto Mt Phipps from the basin, cos it all looks steep scree
- Fantastic weather, quite warm, slight breeze picking up in the afternoon
- Nice view from the top in both directions
