Trip Notes:
Long weekend trip to Brodrick Hut with Steve and Zoey. Attempt at Mount Mackenzie via Brodrick Pass.Mountain kicked our butts.
Day 1
- Left on the Thursday afternoon after work. Picked up Zoey on the way
- Did some epic 4x4ing through river beds and boggy patches
- Parked right outside Monument hut and stayed the night
Day 2
- Hiked up the Hopkins valley then along the Huxley River
- Carried on past Forks Hut to Broderick hut
- Trail was washed away in some places from avalanche falls
- Slow going, but weather held. Light snow instead of rain
- Sim and I shattered as usual
- Cosy hut with wood burning cast iron stove
Day 3
- Steve and Zoey headed up the pass on an attempt at Mt Mackenzie
- Sim and I too knackered to join in
- Sims foot giving him lots of trouble
- Blunt axe meant Sim had to bludgeon the firewood
- Weather pushed Steve & Zoey back to the hut
- Christchurch tramping club arrived
- Too many wet noisy people
