Trip Notes:
Christmas kayaking trip along Abel Tasman coast. Wonderful experience with good weather.
Getting there – too much stuff
- Stayed at Motueka top10 campsite.
- Boerie rolls for dinner
- Joined by Daniel, Luzanne and Ashton
Day 1 – Christmas Eve
- Arrived at The Sea Kayak Company to get set up
- Safety briefings and packing the kayaks
- So much stuff to go in the kayaks
- Loaded the kayaks onto the vans and off to the launch spot
- Great weather
- Stopped for lunch on an Fisherman Island. Chip rolls. yum
- Saw some seals on Adele Island
- Camped at Anchorage Bay
- Massive steak followed by Christmas pudding
Day 2 – Christmas Day
- Another sunny day
- Checked out Cleopatras pools
- Found a beach to ourselves for lunch.
- Sunbathed. Got burnt
- Ashton caught a fish. Gutted the fish. Eeeeuw
- Saw a dead penguin
- Paddled to Mosquito Bay
- Beautiful campsite
- Heavy kayaks. Dragged them up the beach
- Ashton caught another fish, cooked the fish
- Cheese and crackers with our whisky on the beach at sundown
- Americans don’t have Christmas crackers!!
- Butter chicken and naan bread fro dinner. Excellent.
Day 3 – Boxing Day
- Weather turning, getting a bit windy
- More seals
- No fish in the water
- Had enough of paddling
- Landed on the beach
- Just in time for a water taxi
- Scrambled to get all our gear out and onto the taxi
- Tractor pulls out the boat and drives it down the road
- Wonderful trip
