Our first proper long trip motocamping adventure on the groms.
Day 1 – ChCh to Arthurs Pass – 161 km
- Wiggled through the back roads as much as possible
- Heavy winds going up to Arthurs pass.
- Waiting out the rain in a shelter
- Doing some exploring
- Camping at Klondyke Corner and worrying about Keas all night
Day 2 – Arthurs Pass to Lake Kaniere – 169 km
- Freezing cold through the pass
- Much more fun on the slower back roads to Hookitika
- Pies from the petrol station at Hokitika are crap
- Cool couch on the beach
- Scenic back roads to lake kaniere
- Lake kaniere – bit meh, very busy
Day 3 – Lake Kaniere to Lake Brunner – 220 km
- Full on day
- First water crossings
- Lots of dirt roads
- Frustrated with locked gates
- Vickis boots are not waterproof
- Nice little detour through some twisty roads
- Lake Brunner is pretty
- Hit 2000 km on the odo
Day 4 – Lake Brunner to ChCh – 211 km
- Good to be heading home
- Low on petrol
