Simon spoilt me with a surprise ballooning excursion for my birthday.
- We were up early and on our way to Canterbury Ballooning in Hororata before dawn. Lift off was at around 7:30 with a temperature of of -4 °C . It was just the two of us and the pilot.
- Fantastic views of the frosty plains and snow capped mountains. Best present EVA.
- Canterbury ballooning was pretty well set up. First time we have seen ipads used very well for signing in. Pilot was a bit prickly as soon as Sim mentioned drones (what is it with pilots?) but eventually warmed up a bit.
- Landing in a locked field and having to ‘hop’ the fence was cool.
- Champagne to toast a successful flight.

Then off to the Antarctic center with a stop off at the Sheffield pie shop on the way, followed by dinner at a Thai fusion restaurant to end the day.
