TT2000 – Top Gun Themed Fun

Day 1 – ChCH to Lake Brunner – 653km & 10hrs

Equipped with our new Top Gun call signs kindly assigned to us by Greg, we headed off to the start line at Yaldhurst.

Lots of bikes,  of all sizes and shapes. Riders too. Briefing followed by collection of our tee shirts and then we were finally off.

We lost sight of Greg near the first check point. Our Nav said to turn right down a dirt road, but Gregs said to take the right hand turn further on. Quite a bit of confusion resulting in Greg doing a bunch of backtracking looking for us, and finally meeting up with us at the 2nd checkpoint.

Good long day, but the weather was lovely. We rode for the first time in the dark which was not at all fun. The headlights seriously need upgrading at some point

Day 2 – Lake Brunner to  Fairlie – 1079km & 16 hrs

This was an exceptionally long Day. By the time we got to Haast I was fading a wee bit, but I managed to get a second wind  and we were up and over to Queenstown.

Greg got scammed by a tourist in Glenorchie.  BK for Dinner in Queenstown, the onwards. By the time we got to Fairlie, I was knackered and could not go on any more. Greg carried on home.

Noone at the campsite at night or inthe morning so, we couldn’t pay. Simon emailed them the following day , and they  were happy with our honesty and gave us a freebie.

Day 3 – 257km & 4 hrs

I’m glad we pushed on as far as we did last night. Not a lot of sleep, but it made today easier to do.  Quick ride up to summit road and on to the finish point at Yaldhurst. Managed to wolf down a huge breakfast and then the exhaustion set in.
